Self-awareness is understanding of what motivates your actions and behaviour. Emotional Intelligence (Emotional Quotient)

EQ is defined as being aware that emotions can drive behaviour and impact people, positively or negatively. And it’s learning how to manage those emotions, both our own and others, especially when we are under pressure, we want to connect with people, positively influence others or get their buy-in. EQ strengths that serve us well in certain circumstances – that helps us choose the best responses to achieve the results we want.

Mindsets

One way to think of your EQ strengths is as the mindsets that guide your interactions. These mindsets make up your comfort zone. They’re the lenses through with you view various situations and interactions. And they influence the response you automatically reach for, without conscious thought. As different situations call for different response, so you may not always handle certain situations effectively because the optimal response is unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Adopting different mindset is about stepping outside of your comfort zone. Becoming comfortable outside of your comfort zone. Mindset is about developing the agility to respond effectively to whatever situation or challenge you’re facing.

Empathy

Empathy is understanding another’s perspective and feelings. With empathy, we recognise how decisions get made and who the influencers are. Empathy helps us understand what impact our way of communication may have on those around us. Empathy is not compassion.

Executive presence as how one acts (gravitas), speaks (communication) and looks (appearance). Decisions about our careers are very often done when we are not present in the room with the decision makers. Executive presence is the after taste you leave when you are not present. Executive presence isn’t just about how others perceive you. Research shows that impactful executive presence accounted to 26% of work promotions.
